Raku | Red Smoke Vase
This vase is one of a kind and created using an alternative firing. After bisque, a red slip was applied to it before a second firing. The piece was then pulled out of the kiln while it was glowing red hot and placed in a bin containing combustible organic material like sawdust and newspaper, that caught fire. The bin was immediately closed off, starving the piece of oxygen, which created a smokey effect. The unpredictability of alternative firings is what attracts many artists to it.
CARE: This is a low fire process and thus not waterproof. While beautiful, this ware is decorative rather than functional, and it will not hold water.
FEATURES*:
Measures 5.25"h x 5.5"w
Glazes are non-toxic, and lead-free
This piece is wheel thrown and twice fired. As expected, handmade pieces can have small slopes, grooves, and imperfections. That’s how you know it’s a hand crafted original and not a factory-made replica.
NOTE:
* All sizes are approximations.
* Photos are as close as possible to the accurate representation of the item’s actual color. However, due to varying screen and device settings, your item may appear slightly different in person.
