Vase | Smokey Sunset
This wheel-thrown vase was saggar-fired, a process that creates richly organic and unrepeatable surfaces. In this alternative firing method, I wrapped the piece in natural materials—such as copper carbonate, salt, and copper wire—before enclosing it in aluminum foil. As the kiln atmosphere shifts depending on placement—whether high or low, near the fire or further away—each firing leaves behind unique markings and colors. The result is a vase with its own singular character; no two will ever emerge the same.
Please note: Saggar firing is a low-temperature process, so this vase is not watertight. It is best suited for display or for use with dried flowers, offering timeless beauty throughout the year.
FEATURES*:
Measures 6.5” H x 4.5” W approximately
Glazes are non-toxic, and lead-free
Hand wash to prolong life of the luster
The base is sanded smooth to protect surfaces from scratches.
This piece is wheel thrown and twice fired. As expected, handmade pieces can have small slopes, grooves, and imperfections. That’s how you know it’s a hand crafted original and not a factory-made replica.
Note:
* All sizes are approximations.
* Photos are as close as possible to the accurate representation of the item’s actual color. However, due to varying screen and device settings, your item may appear slightly different in person.
